FLAG Conferences and Regional Meetings
  • FLAG features national and local speakers with a focus on issues of concern for educators and parents of students who are gifted at our annual conference
  • We support regional conferences for teachers, parents, administrators and other school personnel to aid in the understanding of gifted education and students who are gifted
  • In addition, FLAG collaborates with the Florida Department of Education in sponsoring the annual Workshop for Teachers New to Gifted
Awards

The Florida Association for the Gifted provides three student scholarships/awards and two teacher awards annually.  Funds are raised through private donations and an Auction at the annual conference.

  • Excellence in Creative Teaching Award: established by FLAG to recognize teachers of the gifted that construct creative learning environments in which students and teachers alike explore, imagine and engage in a variety of thought provoking experiences.
  • Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award: originally funded by the Nicholas Green Foundation and NAGC, National Association for Gifted Children, is an award program designed to recognize distinguished achievement in academics, leadership, or the arts, in children grades 3 through 6. One child per state can be named a Nicholas Green Distinguished Student and that winner receives $500 and an NAGC Certificate of Excellence.

  • Scobee Scholarships: created in honor of Dick Scobee, commander of the Challenger Space Shuttle, is awarded annually to outstanding gifted high school students who intend to pursue college studies in math, science, or technology. Two $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to an eligible male and female gifted student, interested in pursuing studies in the areas of math, science, or technology. 

  • Mini-Grants for Teachers: awarded annually to fund special projects that encourage challenging and unique curriculum and projects for students who are gifted.
